About the Repository
Tulane University hosts the Latin American Library (located in the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library) and the Middle American Research Institute (which conducts, supports, and publishes research on Mesoamerica). The Latin American Library’s Rare Books and Manuscripts collections are rich in Mesoamerican primary source materials. The Maya Rubbings and the Photographic Archive are also very useful.

The Handbook of Middle American Indians (1975), vol. 15, pp. 446-448, lists four original pictorial manuscripts, eight copies of pictorial manuscripts, four Techialoyan manuscripts, two Testerian manuscripts, one falsified pictorial, and seven prose manuscripts. The originals include: the Ordenanza del Señor Cuauhtemoc, the Tira de Tributos of Mizquiahuala, the Census of Tepoztlan, and the Codex Tulane. The Techialoyans are affiliated with San Francisco Xonacatlan, Axoloapan Xoloctlan, Oztoyaotitlan (?), and Coacalco. The latter is a copy with a Spanish translation by Galicia Chimalpopoca. Keywords for additional mss. include: Coixtlahuaca, Cuauhtlantzinco, Mani, Meixueiro, Noxtepec, Sotuta, Tlaxcala, López, Fuentes y Guzmán, Ixil, Chilam Balam, Kaua, Mani, Olmos, Tabi, and Tizimin.
