Burnished cream-slipped ceramic.
Mexico, Las Bocas

Olmec culture

1100-500 B.C.

Ht. 16.5 cm (6.5")

Stout hand-modeled infantile figure in a wrestling pose. The only adornment is a pair of scored hair tufts. The fat face is expressively rendered, including cheek and chin dimples. There are several repaired breaks in the upper torso. In short, a very powerful miniature Olmec sculpture.
